On September 13, the BBC Singers will record Bernard Hughes's new choral work, The Death of Balder.
Based on Kevin Crossley-Holland's translation of the Norse legend, the piece uses 24 a cappella voices to narrate the legend of Balder, who is killed by the malevolent God Loki.
An abridged version of the piece was performed by the Singers at Spitalfields Festival 2006. The Singers have previously performed Bernard's One-and-a-Half Truths and two movements from Three Swans.
