David Bramhall was educated in London and at Durham University before teaching in schools in the East End of London, the Scottish Highlands and East Anglia. Latterly he ran the Schools’ Music Service of Suffolk County Council. His two music textbooks Composing in the Classroom Opus 1 and Composing in the Classroom Opus 2 (Boosey & Hawkes 1989) sell steadily all over the English-speaking world, are recommended by the Government of Saskatchewan and have been translated into Greek. An eBook, Training your young choir is published by The Choirmaster Press. He has also written for the Times Educational Supplement and was an Editorial Consultant to Silver-Burdett-Ginn (USA) during preparation of their major ‘music method’ for schools. Choir-training has always been David’s first love. He directed, at various times, the Suffolk Jubilee Choir, Ipswich Girls’ Choir, High Voices, the Concentio Youth Choir, and most recently the remarkable award-winning Harmony Girls’ Choir which recorded several CDs, appeared five times on television, and achieved national competition successes. He conducted in the Britten Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, Aberdeen International Festival, and at prestigious venues in France, Italy, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. He has recently been appointed to the panel of adjudicators of The British and International Federation of Festivals. After retiring from full-time work David launched a new career as a website designer. His website www.PayThePiper.co.uk won the ‘Best Music Website’ award in 2004, is recommended by the DfES, and has helped thousands of young people to realise their dream of playing a musical instrument.
