Ewart Hodge studied composition with Francis Pott at the London College of Music with a scholarship and a year-long Fellowship, before transferring to finish his Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with David Horne. Ewart has enjoyed collaborating with artists in different media, including dance projects with the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music at St. Pancras in 2006 and 2007, the London Contemporary Dance School, and recently a composition project with the Northern Ballet School in Manchester. Ewart has also been recorded on Universal Records as a session musician on Christie Hennessy’s posthumous No. 1 album The Two of Us. Before receiving full-time tuition in composition, Ewart studied the viola, playing with the Nottingham Youth Orchestra and several other ensembles in and around Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands before moving to London to play lead viola with the Royal Orchestral Society—later winning their HRH Prince Alfred Scholarship prize for the 2006―7 season. Many of his works reveal this intimate understanding of the string family.Ewart is currently working on a string nonet, and plans to write a concerto during the coming year.
